Subsequent to the recent diagnosis of equine neurological disease in Ontario due to Equid herpesvirus‐1 (EHV‐1), in cooperation with Ontario Ministry of Agriculture & Food and Ministry of Rural Affairs, the University of Guelph’s Animal Health Laboratory (AHL) will be providing complimentary PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing on blood, nasal swabs and tissues of horses with clinical signs of neurological disease. Please note that the testing will be available not only for horses showing neurological signs, but also for febrile horses in the same environment as well as for tissues from post-mortems and aborted fetuses.

The charge of $67 per PCR and $2 per swab/VTM will be covered by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture & Food and Ministry of Rural Affairs surveillance funds.

For more information on sample collection and submission, visit www.ahl.uoguelph.ca or contact the Animal Health Laboratory at 519‐824‐4120, ext. 54530 or ahlinfo@uoguelph.ca.
