From Hermes to Gucci, equestrian style has long been a fashion staple. And for those two brands in particular, it’s part of their history.

Designer Stella McCartney is famously vegan in her own life and in the materials she uses to create her collections. During Paris Fashion Week, the British designer showed her fall/winter 2023-24 at France’s famed L’École Militaire, where several grey horses were incorporated into the runway show.

“There is so much leather, fur and feathers on these runways, particularly in winter. I just wanted to show that you could show animals in a different way,” she told The Guardian,  adding backstage, “The difference is that these animals are alive and my clothes haven’t killed anything.”

Indeed, McCartney has never used leather, fur, or feathers in any of her designs in all of her 22 years in the fashion industry. This latest collection included handbags made from apples, and full-length coats spun from responsibly sourced yarn and leather alternatives.
