Ottawa, Ontario — Canadian rider Shannon Dueck, a current resident of Loxahatchee, FL, USA earned top placings at the CDI 3* Centerline Events at HITS on the Hudson, held August 17-19 in Saugerties, NY, USA.

Riding Evan Lindsay’s 10-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding Control (x Comeback II), Dueck kicked off the competition with a strong win in the Euro American Prix St Georges, scoring 65.333%.

“I love riding Control in the show ring,” said Dueck, a seasoned international competitor for Canada who took home the Individual Silver Medal at the 1999 Pan American Games, and was the highest placed Canadian at the 2002 World Equestrian Games. “He is so consistent and really enjoys being in front of the judges.”

The duo also claimed third place in the CDI Intermediaire I, scoring 65.667% to finish less than one percentile off second place, and exactly two percent behind from the winner.

“I am really happy with his progress, he is so much more consistent and through than he was in the spring,” said Dueck, who plans to follow up the HITS competition with the CDI Dressage at Devon September 25-30. “Control is so good in the ring that he really doesn’t need ring experience.”

An international panel of judges gathered at the CDI 3* Centerline Events at HITS on the Hudson, including Canadians Joan Macartney (FEI ‘I’) and Cara Whitham (FEI ‘O’), as well as American judges Col. Axel Steiner (FEI ‘O’) and Jeanne MacDonald (FEI ‘C’, USA) and Reinhard Seim of Germany (FEI ‘I’).

“I love going to this show. It’s big, and has fantastic grounds and stalls, and the footing is fabulous,” said Dueck. “The footing is so good here that horses go in the ring and they move better than they do at home .”
