Ottawa, ON — Dressage Canada is pleased to announce that an Equine Canada/Dressage Canada sanctioned Dressage Steward’s Clinic with Christine Hickman will take place October 27-28 in Ottawa, ON.

The clinic, which is being held at the Nepean National Equestrian Park, will act as an Updating and Upgrading Clinic for current Basic, Medium and Senior EC Dressage Stewards.

This is also an opportunity for Equine Canada stewards to become discipline specific in Dressage. 

The clinic will also incorporate a Learner session, which is open to anyone interested in learning more about the Dressage stewarding program and/or becoming an Equine Canada Dressage Steward. Dressage competitions across the country rely heavily on stewards to help make their shows a success, and many stewards will attest that the role is not only rewarding in this regard, but also an opportunity to meet and get to know the athletes.

“Stewarding is a great way to keep in touch with equine competitions.  Since specializing in stewarding Dressage competitions I have had the opportunity to visit a number of different places and meet some wonderful people involved with the sport,” said clinician Christine Hickman, an FEI Dressage, Senior Dressage Canada and Senior National Equine Canada Steward. “What better way of helping with a discipline one enjoys!”

The clinic will run over a two-day period and will include theory as well as hands on demonstrations. It is also an opportunity for information sharing between stewards where past experiences are described and questions answered. The cost is $175 for Dressage Canada or Equine Canada members, or $200 for non-members.

As one of Canada’s most successful and active stewards, Hickman has officiated at several CDIs across North America, including the 2002 FEI Dressage Championships of the Americas and the 2007 FEI World Cup Final.
