With horse shows getting back on track after months of lockdown and restrictions due to the ongoing pandemic, we’re all itching to get back in the show ring. For superstar comedian Chris Rock’s daughter Zahra, it’s been a successful return. The 16-year-old equestrian showed her two horses, Sawyer and Colorful, at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, NY, in early August and brought home the coveted first-place ribbons – blue in the U.S.
Zahra’s mother, Malaack Compton-Rock, took to Instagram to celebrate the moment, writing on the social media platform, “Great day at HITS on the Hudson horse show! Yesterday Zahra and her horse Sawyer ribboned in every round, including two 1st place wins and overall Reserve Champion. She didn’t do bad on Colorful either with the two of them earning a 4th and 5th place ribbon. We are back today and it’s been a great start!”
Compton-Rock also posted at an earlier show in July, which gave followers some vital details about what the vibe of a Covid-19-era showground feels like.

The post read; “Zahra is back competing! It’s so nice after being off her horses for 4 months. There are no spectators, you must be masked and everyone is adhering to social distancing. I’m so glad too as I told her I reserve the right to drive back home if things are not right! Yesterday was a good day on this beauty Colorful ! She placed first in the medal round and third and eighth in her other jumping rounds, so ribbons all the way!”
Sawyer is Zahra’s newest mount and she competed in January in Wellington in the hunter ring on both her horses. Compton-Rock had only glowing reviews about the Florida show scene and the sport. “There is great camaraderie, friendship and fun between the riders from her barn and great mutual respect and support. This is a really great benefit from this sport. Escaping the cold weather each weekend is not a bad benefit as well,” she posted.
No word if Zahra’s father Chris was in attendance at any of the horse shows. He and his wife split up in 2016 after 18 years of marriage and have three daughters, which they amicably co-parent. Zahra is the middle child.
