To provide clarity on the scope of the 2011 Clenbuterol Testing Pilot Project for Quarter Horse racing, the Ontario Racing Commission has issued Quarter Horse Directive 2-2011 and notes that owners and trainers should be aware of the following:

  • The enhanced testing for clenbuterol for Quarter Horse Racing in Ontario (effective August 15, 2011) has been implemented for all horses competing in Quarter Horse races in Ontario for the remainder of the 2011 racing season.
  • The testing program will include Quarter Horse races at Fort Erie scheduled for the following race dates:
Saturday, October 8th, Saturday, October 15th, and Saturday, October 22nd Full card of Quarter Horse racing (testing on all races)
Tuesday, October 11th, Sunday, October 16th, and Monday, October 24th Mixed Card (testing on Quarter Horse races only).

· The Fort Erie race card for Sunday, October 16th includes two mixed-breed races (Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred) which are stakes races called the Battle of the Breeds (one short distance and one long distance race). The enhanced testing for clenbuterol will apply to all Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred entries for the Battle of the Breeds races.
