On Saturday July 4th, a horse was euthanized following the sixth heat of chuckwagon races.

Layne Bremner’s right lead horse, Duke, suffered a broken cannon bone, when two wagons collided on the track.

The 10-year-old Thorougbred gelding, a former racehorse, was examined by a veterinarian on the scene and euthanized immediately.

Bremner received a $2,500 penalty as well as a five-second penalty for interference.

Kurt Kadatz, stampede spokesman, described the incident in the video below.
