In the early hours of Sunday morning, following the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, the body of a man was found in one of the barns at Churchill Downs.

While investigators suspect foul play, and are treating the case as a homicide, they have not been able to link the death to the race or the track. The victim, 48-year-old Adan Fabian Perez, a track worker, who lived on the grounds, appeared to have been in a physical altercation.

Perez’s body was discovered in a barn used by Louisville trainer Angel Montano Sr. at approximately 4:50 a.m. on Sunday and was removed at 9:50 a.m. amidst post-Derby celebrations.
