Bear Stables’ filly Bear It’s Time took Holiday Monday’s $125,000 Lady Angela Stakes at Woodbine, perhaps setting her up for a date in next month’s Woodbine Oaks.

Under jockey Luis Contreras, the daughter of Philanthropist sat comfortably off the early pace before blowing past the leaders en route to a 5 ¼-length score. Sinister Quill, seeking her fourth win in as many starts, was second, while pacesetter Robnpetertopaypaul was third.

Bear It’s Time travelled seven furlongs in 1:21.88 in the Lady Angela, an added-money race for Ontario-sired three-year-old fillies.

Now 2-for-3 lifetime, her lone defeat was a third-place finish in her career bow on August 27, when she had a less than ideal start in the five-furlong Polytrack race.

Conditioner Reade Baker had some question marks prior to deciding to run Bear It’s Time in the 29th edition of the race.

“I don’t really know, maybe it’s Contreras,” said Baker, in praising the winning rider’s role in improving Bear It’s Time’s recent works. “He came over to work her and she’s blossomed. I love off-the-pace riders and he’s a very good one.”

Baker suggested Bear It’s Time’s next start could come in the Woodbine Oaks, presented by Budweiser, on June 5.

She paid $3.80, $2.60 and $2.10, combining with Sinister Quill ($3.40,
$2.20) for an $11 exactor. Robnpetertopaypaul ($2.40) completed a $27 triactor.

Classy Katherine was scratched at the gate.

Racing resumes Wednesday evening with first post set for 6:45 p.m.
