Ashley Holzer and Dressed In Black danced their way to a top 10 finish at the prestigious Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI-W, held March 4-8 in Wellington, Fla. as part of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF).

Riding to a musical arrangement composed by Tamara Williams in the FEI Grand Prix Freestyle CDI-W on Mar. 6, Holzer and Dressed In Black (Dresemann x Sweetheart), her 10-year-old Westphalian gelding, led the Canadian line-up to tie for seventh place on a score of 72.35%.

“I was thrilled with my ride on Friday,” said Holzer, a four-time Olympian for Canada. “Dressed in Black was so much fun to ride. To feel a horse try his best is always the ultimate prize in this sport. This was his first time competing in this electric atmosphere against some of the best in the world.”

Fellow Canadian Olympian, Jacqueline Brooks of Cedar Valley, Ont. and D Niro (D-Day x Napoleon 625), a 16-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding owned by Mary Brooks of Brookhaven Dressage Inc., was the next best placed Canadian in 13th place (69.825%). Dressage veteran, Diane Creech of Caistor Centre, Ont. scored 66.875% for 14th place riding Devon L (De Niro x Wolkenstein II), a 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding co-owned by D.W. Leatherdale and Leatherdale Farms.
