Woodbine Entertainment has announced that the 159th running of the $1 million Queen’s Plate, the first jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown, will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018.

North America’s oldest continuously-run stakes event showcases Canada’s finest three-year-old horses. The 2017 edition was won by Stronach Stables’ Holy Helena, with Luis Contreras in the irons. In her first race against males, Holy Helena’s won by 3 ½ lengths.

In addition to world class horse racing, the Queen’s Plate festival features live entertainment. The Goo Goo Dolls and Our Lady Peace performed at this year’s event. The headliners for 2018 has yet to be announced.

The three-day 2018 Queen’s Plate Festival will run from Friday, June 29 through Sunday, July 1. Previously held on the Sunday of the festival, this year’s Queen’s Plate race moves to the Saturday, with first race post time scheduled for 12 noon. Queen’s Plate winterbook odds will be out in the new year.
