The past weeks we’ve seen several black squirrels busily preparing for winter. There’s a walnut tree near the southwest part of the farm. At first the squirrels were carrying one nut at a time along the fenceline, heading east. Then we noticed two walnuts in each mouth!

A few days ago one of us happened to glance skyward. That’s when we saw one of their stashes. This particular roof is north of the tree. This was a surprise because we hadn’t seen any activity between it and the tree. I’m guessing there are a few hundred walnuts hidden in an easterly location.
