Fun and Games With Winnie

"What were we thinking?!!!!" That’s the question my husband, Bill, and I asked ourselves when we brought home Zelador and Zeloso, two weanling Lusitano colts, at the end of December in 2004. Our combined ages exceed 112 years and our other two horses were eight-years-old and seven when we bought them. We had never worked with youngsters, didn’t know how to work with youngsters and there we were...

To say that we are having the time of our lives would be an understatement. The two Z's led us to liberty training, Working Equitation, tricks (including the bow, the smile, mounting pedestals, pushing large balls) and with any luck, carriage driving. They will begin their jumping education this month and for the past two years have explored classical horsemanship (work in-hand, long reining and work under saddle).

Their adventures and misadventures are chronicled in this blog. I hope you enjoy watching how quickly these two are training us!

Boys at Play

Thought you might enjoy seeing the boys. Zeloso celebrated his twelfth birthday June 30. Zelador’s twelfth birthday was March 16.

Long Awaited Equine Guelph Fundraiser

Sunday the humidex hovered just below 40 for our fundraiser for Equine Guelph. The arena was shaded and there was a breeze, plus tons of ice cream and delicious cookies made by Mrs. Patmore (a.k.a. Charliene)! We limited the horse activity…

In Tune with Horses

Playing with Red Robin and Whisper

The Joys of a New Girth

A huge breakthrough with Zelador occurred about a month ago when we got a Prestige girth designed for girthy horses. Under the belly it is round, like an inner tube. Zelador has told us since day one of having a…

Cutting out the Middleman

During Thursday’s lesson with Alex he was at ‘C’ and I was approaching ‘A.’ He called out to me, “When you get to ‘A’ halt, rein back, then piaffe.” I halted at ‘A’ and during the rein back Zelador did…

We own three (count ‘em, THREE) floor pianos! One is on a 4’x6’ piece of plywood and covered with mylar (a drawing film) with the hopes that this covering will protect the plastic surface of the piano, BECAUSE all three…
